A trip to Dursey Island, Co. Cork, a 6.6 km long and 1.5 km wide outpost in the far corner of Europe to climb Cnoc Bólais, the westernmost peak in the Slieve Miskish range, is highly memorable. You certainly get a feeling of being at the very ‘end of somewhere’ when a signpost tells you it is 3310 km to Moscow and 5280 km to New York! Indeed, what other Irish island offers a hair-raising arrival via cable car, the only one in Europe to cross open sea?
