I have read that the first claddagh ring was made more than 375 years ago and was presented by a man to his beloved. My question is whether men can wear claddagh rings too, if yes, is there any particular design difference between a men’s claddagh ring and a claddagh ring worn by ladies? Thanks in advance for any information that anyone can provide.

yes yes!! i went to Ireland 4 years ago and they were selling Claddagh rings in almost every jewelry store- in both men’s and women’s sizes… as far as i could tell there was a slightly thicker band for the men’s ring – but that might just be for more comfort – other than that the heart and hands were the same in both male and female designs.
ps- be sure to wear it appropriately – if you’re seeing someone or married wear it with the heart facing you – if you’re single wear it with the heart facing away
hehe i love these rings *^_^*

The Claddagh’s distinctive design features two hands clasping a heart, and usually surmounted by a crown. The elements of this symbol are often said to correspond to the qualities of love (the heart), friendship (the hands), and loyalty (the crown). The expression which was associated with these symbols in the giving of the ring was: “Let love and friendship reign.”
The way that a Claddagh ring is worn on the hand is usually intended to convey the wearer’s romantic availability, or lack thereof. Traditionally, if the ring is on the right hand with the design facing outward and away from the body, this indicates that the person wearing the ring is not in any serious relationship, and may in fact be single and looking for a relationship. When worn on the right hand but with the design facing inward toward the body, this indicates the person wearing the ring is in a relationship, or that “someone has captured their heart”. A Claddagh worn on the left hand ring finger, facing outward away from the body, generally indicates that the wearer is engaged. When the ring is on the left hand ring finger and facing inward toward the body, it generally means that the person wearing the ring is married.
hope that helps i propsed to my man for the leap year and i will be presenting him with a claddagh ring they make for both men and women.

The significance and meaning of the Claddagh ring has made it one of the most respected jewels in history. If you consider the message that is carried by the Claddagh ring, you will agree that love, friendship and loyalty are relevant to all people irrespective of sex, cast, nationality or religion. The Claddagh ring is today very popular in almost every country, it is often forgotten that the ring has it’s roots in a small Irish fishing village. The village was called the Claddagh. There really is no reason why you should not wear a men’s claddagh ring. The men’s claddagh ring would ofcourse have the main features of heart, crown and hands and be slightly larger than the lady’s claddagh ring. Like all men’s rings, a healthy metal weight would ensure that the man claddagh ring is more durable and sturdy. This is an important thing that should not be forgotten when it comes to men’s jewelry.
