were the English? Saxons were from Saxony in Germany and Normans were from Normandy in France so why were they fighting in England over England?
I have deduced the Anglo Saxons were the English, but if they lost, how come the island and its people were still called England and the English, as successful invaders usually give their own name to their new territory? So why didn’t England become French, culturally, after the Norman invasion?
I’m so confused.
Is the Republic of Ireland more independent from the United Kingdom than Northern Ireland or something? Also, what’s the history of that whole situation.
Sorry, I hate that I’m so ignorant about European history.
I would really appreciate any knowledge you can share with me.
I understand Great Britain and Ireland were attached by a land link before the sea divided them. Where was the last part of Great Britain to be joined? Some say Kintyre in Scotland others have said Wales. When was this?
a Celt, a Viking, a Pict and an Angle? Or would their be little difference in the physical features?
Did it have to do with religion…or was the religion conflict between Northern and Southern Ireland? Did the conflict between England and Ireland have to do with loyalty to England?
Also are there any good websites where I can read about this?
Thanks so much!
Apparently Mac Angus de Moravia was the descendant of King Duncan I of Scotland, so I’m curious to know what the kinship was between the two, as I can’t seem to find it anywhere. (Mac Angus de Moravia has to do with the Scottish clan Murray, they are supposedly his descendants.) Thanks!
In Scottish folklore I hear the Each Uisge is much more dangerous (the most dangerous water creature in fact) than the Kelpie but I cant find any differences. Could someone please explain?
Ireland and Greece are going through a huge economy crisis right now, and there are even some talk about wanting Greece to leave the EU. But on the other hand, Romania is also a very poor country, how come the EU doesn’t seem to be effected by this at all? There are no talks about Romania getting kicked out of the EU. So….what’s the difference between these 3 countries? Why are people more concern about Ireland and Greece’s economy, but not Romania?
