Ap European History Study Guide
im working towards a PhD in Northern European History(vikings, celts, etc.). Ive always wanted to be a professor, since i was 4 years old and met an art history professor. I would like to ideally be a full time professor, writing books and teaching Northern European History. Ive heard that a full time professor(not lecturer or teaching assistant) makes no less than 6 figures, but id like to have more input on this. Thanks in advance.

The 12th of May was a momentous day regarding language, particularly the Scottish Gaelic language and as a result the Scottish people.
In the prior census of Scotland, that happened during 2001 there was a total of 58,652 Gaelic speakers. The overall trend for the language is actually one of steady decline. However in spite of the shortage of Gaelic speakers, there is room for optimism.
Scotland Act
With the development of devolution, Scottish matters have started to obtain increased awareness, and the Gaelic Language (Scotland) Act was introduced by the Scottish Parliament on 21 April 2005.
In October 2009, an important agreement was made which permits Scottish Gaelic to be used officially amongst Scottish Government ministers and European Union officials. The deal was signed by the United kingdom’s representative to the European union and the Scottish government.
This doesn’t provide Scottish Gaelic formal status in the European union, but gives it the right to be a means of official communications in the EU’s institutions. The Scottish government will have to spend on English translation services from Gaelic to other European languages.
The essential factor to make is that Scottish Gaelic has been allowed to be applied. Just how much it may be used for both formal and informal communication is yet to actually be observed, but don’t expect English to go away anytime shortly.
Historic day
Scottish education secretary Michael Russell claimed a spot in history as the first individual to address an Eu conference in Scots Gaelic.
Mr Russell presented his speech at a meeting of ministers hailing from just about all fellow member states talking about education, youth and culture..
Interpreters had been supplied for his co-workers as he talked concerning youth policies in Gaelic just before reverting to English.
Mr Russell said it was a great honour to be the first minister to deliver a speech in Gaelic.
He said: “The Scottish Government is committed to a sustainable future for the Gaelic language. I can think of no better way to promote the language within Europe than at a Council meeting which, by definition, encourages and promotes multilingualism.”
A Memorandum of Understanding authorized in 2009 set up the practical arrangements in order to enable Scottish Gaelic to be put into use inside Eu establishments.
However, interpretation is only to be provided from Scots Gaelic into English, and not from English into Scots Gaelic – and the expense regarding providing interpreting and translation services will have to be accounted in the devolved Scottish government.

English, Irish, Scottish, German, Norwegian, etc. all tend to have very bland cuisines to their countries. Italian cooking all tastes and looks the same really. Just some pasta tossed with some sauce and mixed with a little meat or seafood. French cooking tends to be way overrated.
Where is the wonderful spiciness of Mexican, Brazilian or Vietnamese?
To Aoife: So what if the Irish climate can’t grow those wonderful spices that so many countries outside Europe are blessed with? Have you never heard of DRIED herbs and spices? God knows you Europeans have taken enough from the rest of this planet and called it your own, so why not take some spices for your cooking. You do realise that the potato originally came to Europe from South America don’t you? Think of what Irish, English, Scottish, Polish etc. cooking would be like without it. Your answer is a cop out. Your food is bland and boring maybe because your cultures are bland and boring?
To Aoife: Yeah, we poor Canadians simply don’t have the bloodshed, violence and general barbarity that soooo many European countries have.
Oh well, I’ll go cry about it for awhile I guess.
