Many attempts have been made to set Blake’s “Songs of Innocence and Experience” to music, including classical composers, William Bolcom (1984), Benjamin Britten and Ralph Vaughan Williams, and folk singers Greg Brown (1987), and Finn Coren.” The attempt I am most familiar with is by hip poet, Allen Ginsberg, who accompanied himself on harmonium on his 1970 recording. As a lover of Blake’s poetry I decided to try recording the complete collection of poems, set partly to original music and partly to adaptations of folk tunes. It is presented here in eight videos, with some assistance from my sister, Annette, also a lover of Blake, and my nephew, Lachlan. William Blake (1757-1827), now famous for his unique poetic and artistic vision, was not recognised in his own lifetime. His incredibly rich and imaginative poetry expresses a romantic and mystical view of the world, and, though he loved the Bible, an extreme hostility to established religion and the conventional view of marriage, which earned him a reputation for madness or at least eccentricity. Blake believed Innocence and Experience were the two contrary states of the human soul, and both essential for life. The poems in “Songs of Innocence” either express a child’s point of view or are about children. Many have a matching poem in “Songs of Experience”, giving a different and darker perspective.Though Blake believed children needed to become experienced, he blamed social exploitation, such as child labour, and dogmatic …
The West Coast mainline has for years always attracted railway enthusiasts to its stations and line side locations. With its 401 mile route from London’s Euston Terminal Station to Glasgow Central in Scotland all manner of freight and passenger traffic can be seen and photographed on this ever changing premiere line to the North. Filmed over a three year period from 2000 to 2003, we visit no less than 9 locations – all are displayed with details. In 2003 we see Virgin’s newly introduced Class 390 Pendolino 390014 (City of Manchester) working a minimal Manchester Piccadilly to Euston service together with the celebrated Class 86 and 87 and not forgetting the venerable Class 43 or better known HST125s – as usual Virgin Trains put on a sterling show. Also in this program we take an extensive look at the freight scene which has always been the life blood of our railways, classes of freight locomotives, both electric and diesel motive power can be seen on this line – they include 37,47,57,66, 86, 90 and 92.

My friend and i are interested in going to Ireland for a trip two summers from now. What’s most important is the money, the trip would cost around 4000 dollars for the both of us. So if anyone has suggestions for making that money, that would help too.
But where should we go in Ireland? I want to experience everything Ireland has to offer, in only about a week and a half. Is it possible? Where should i go to get the best experience out of this trip?
Thanks in advance!
Gardening has always been one of the most popular British pastimes, but in the last decade or so it has become a truly cultural phenomenon, inspiring everything from primetime TV makeover shows to expensive retail concepts.
This April will see Cardiff host The Royal Horticultural Societyâs Spring Flower Show at Bute Park, Cardiff Castle. Better known by its acronym RHS, the Society was founded in 1804 in order to promote gardening and horticulture in Britain by hosting a series of flower shows with model gardens accessible to the public. A registered charity, the RHS is renowned for its commitment to promoting high quality exhibits and ensures good gardening products and quality plant material are available for purchase by visitors both on the day and after the show.
The RHS Spring Flower Show, held annually in Cardiff since 2005, promises to be one of the most exciting shows yet this year, and is likely to generate a considerable amount of interest from journalists, photographers and visitors alike, making it an ideal opportunity to share horticulturalist innovations and create publicity.
The most anticipated show gardens this spring includes ‘Eats Shoots and Leaves’, demonstrating how to create an edible landscape in your own garden, while retaining the beauty normally associated with a purely ornamental garden. âSlugger Off!â aims to show how to avoid slugs without using slug pellets, bringing in birds to eat them and planting plants that slugs donât eat and tender plants grown out of the way of slugs.
Meanwhile, the ‘Cardiff University Research Gardenâ will showcase the research work being conducted at Cardiff University, using the garden to show how everyday plants are used in groundbreaking research.
Other highlights this year will include two floral marquees packed with the very best nurseries from across the UK; fine Welsh food and crafts and advice workshops from experts in addition to nature trails, street entertainers and live music to keep gardeners of all ages entertained.
The RHS Spring Flower show is likely to attract hundreds of thousands of visitors, and around 700,000 members and non-members visit RHS shows annually, meaning those wishing to go should book tickets, available directly from the RHS website, and accommodation in one of the many hotels in Cardiff well in advance to avoid disappointment.
So, regardless of your levels of expertise, the RHS Spring Flower Show in Cardiff should have something to keep you and your fellow travellers happy and busy all weekend long.
