I’m a history nut and I cant find a clan that my family belongs to.
I havnt done research on the Scottish side of my family before, so I dont even know where to start from the information I already have.
Any advice and what not would be appreciated :)

Is their any records on the internet i can look up for free? They were from the Island of Lewis in the Hebrides. And both of my great grandparents were half native american half scottish.

Moving to edinburgh with my husband and three small children. We need to be close to uni but we would really appreciate some help finding good schols and areas. Don’t know where to begin!

I have recently been cast in a play created to depict the Welsh history and folklore of Arthur Pendragon. In the cast list I am posted as Arthur’s half sister Igraine. As far as I am aware Igraine was, in fact, Arthur’s mother and Morgan Le Fey was his half sister.

Is there more to the genealogy I’m not aware of, or some story I can’t find on the internet that would help fill in the blanks?

Bíonn mo mháthair is mathair ag bearradhs ag bruíon liom féin Táim giobaithe piocaithe, ciapaithe, cráite dem shaol Thugas taitneamh don duine úd dob fhinnes dob aille snó Is chuaigh sé ar bhord loinge, is é Jimmy mo mhíle stór Rachadsa chun coille agus caithféad an chuid eile dem shaol San áit ná béidh éinne ag éisteacht le ceol na n-éan ag bun an chrainn chaorthainn mar a bhfásann ann féar go leor ag tabhart taitnimh don duine úd, is é Jimmy mo mhíle stór

What do you think is the best town in the Republic of Ireland that has good schools, family friendly places, nice people, safe neighborhoods, a large ratio of families, etc.

I would rather live on the west coast but anywhere is fine. Thanks!

The above link is an image of a stained glass window in Magnus Cathedral, Kirkwall. It is the Flett family crest. I don’t know much about the history of coat of arms.

The word in the picture, “ROITHMAN” is significant in the crest but I can’t find any information for it.

Any info?

I am trying to find out my family connections with this area. My great grandmother was Ann McGourty and her father was called Thomas McGourty. I only know that Anne was born in 1844 approx and I have been led to believe that they were of the Roman Catholic Faith

An inquiry into the genealogy and present state of ancient Scottish surnames: with the origin and descent of the Highland clans; and family of Buchanan. By William Buchanan of Auchmar.

This was recorded quite a while ago , in Scotland. (translation further down) Chorus: ‘S e gillean mo ruin a thogadh mo sunnd, ‘S i so a’ Bhliadhn’ Or thug solas dhuinn: ‘S e gillean mo ruin a thogadh oirnn sunnd. Air m’uilinn ‘s an leabaidh an am dol a chadal, Gun d’fhairich mi Challuinn ‘s gun chord i rium. Chualas na duain am briathran nam buadh, “Thoir botul a nuas ‘s an toisich sinn”. ‘S e gillean mo ghraidh a thainig o’n bhlar, Le’n cotaichean sgarlaid ‘s boidheach iad. S e gillean mo chridhe a sheinneadh an fhidheall, Bu mhiann le clann-nighean bhi comhla riuth’. ‘S i fidheall nan teud a sheinneadh gu reidh, ‘S gun cuireadh i ceud an ordugh dhuinn. ‘S aighearrach mi o’n rinneadh an t-sith, ‘S mo bheannachd do’n Righ thug forladh dhuinn. Its the boys I love that would lift my mood This is the New yer that gave us joy Its the boys I love that would lift our mood I was resting on my elbow in bed, at sleeping time, I heard the Calends (New Year) and I enjoyed it. We heard the song in the words of victory “Take a bottle down and we will begin”. The boys I love have come from the batttle looking good in their scarlet coats. The boys of my heart play the fiddle The girls like to be with them The stringed fiddle sings so sweetly Would set a hundred in order for us. I am happy since peace has been declared My blessings on the king who granted us leave.
