I’m going to Ireland in a few months, and I just wanna get to know more about it’s history before I go. I know that Northern Ireland is currently controlled by the UK. I would like to know what is stopping Northern Ireland from leaving the UK and becoming part of Ireland again. Why does the UK want to control it so much?
Also- what are some must-see places to visit when I go there??

How did the socio-political instability in Northern Ireland slow down its economic growth until 1998?

also Isle of Wight & Isle of Anglesey, but not Isle of Man, and not British Channel Islands in English Channel near to France, and not inluding Republic of Ireland.
This is for my school report. I wanna know why the Northern Ireland is not a part of Ireland Republic. Does anybody know the history behind? And also base on my research, is it true that in most Irish families the mother is firmly in control and is the boss??? Pls help asap..
I always thought that Scotland, England, Wales and Northern Ireland were all separate Countries but my geography teacher said that the United Kingdom is a single Country. What does this make Scotland, England, Wales and Northern Ireland?
What is the name for them?
Thanks in advance!
I’m so confused.
Is the Republic of Ireland more independent from the United Kingdom than Northern Ireland or something? Also, what’s the history of that whole situation.
Sorry, I hate that I’m so ignorant about European history.
I would really appreciate any knowledge you can share with me.
Kind of an odd question–this is for an RP game I’m involved in. People would be leaving Dunluce Castle and going to the Orkney Isles by 14th century cog ship.
Would also be nice if I knew how long it took to get from the castle to Rathlin Island, and from the castle to mainland Scotland.
Thanks!!
ive read so many comments about the bloody sunday report and so many people bringing the IRA into it – this was a civil rights march. Catholics had no rights back in those days – similar to the way black people used to be treated in America. Rather than pick up arms and murder like the IRA, they decided to have a civil rights march. Do you not think they had the right to march against this bigotry. Or do you think its acceptable to be treated as second-class citizens based on religion?
It had nothing to do with the IRA (who btw were/are not the only terrorist organisation in Northern Ireland – seems to be the only one some British know about though). The British army murdered innocent people and then lied about it to cover it up. The dead were instead blamed. This report clears them as well as naming the soldiers as the ones responsible. As for the cost, take that up with your government – it doesnt change the fact that innocent people were murdered , not terrorists, but innocent people. I hope that has helped some understand.
I am working on a family tree. My cousin gave me a very old copy of a family tree going back to the 1600′s. It’s very difficult to read so I am trying to put the info I can read/understand into my computer.
For one ancestors info it says:
Johny Green married Abigail Morton on April 11, 1724 (then it gets confusing)
In Bally Hagen Marjallon, N. Ireland
i can’t find anything on the internet about these places. are they spelled wrong? Can you make any sense of it?
Well, it may not have been called Northern Ireland back then…..however, that is where my ancestors lived…….the Northern part of Ireland. Most everything else on the family tree mentions Antrim, Ireland. It is just this one location I am stuck on. Therefore I’m thinking they wrote this part wrong. If I can’t figure out what the correct info is, I will remove it from the family tree.
