You Wouldn’t Want to Be Mary, Queen of Scots!: A Ruler Who Really Lost Her Head
Clips on Mary’s marriages to Henry Stuart, Lord Darnley and James Hepburn, 4th Earl of Bothwell. Mary and Darnley were first cousins; both were the grandchildren of Margaret Tudor, Henry VII’s eldest daughter. Therefore both had close links to the English throne and were potential successors despite the fact that the heirs of Margaret had been bypassed in Henry VIII’s will. Mary and Darnley had one child, James, who became James VI of Scotland and later, in 1603, inherited the English throne as ‘James I’. The accession of James marked the end of the Tudor dynasty on the English throne and the beginning of the Stuart period.

The haunting story of the beautiful—and tragic—Mary, Queen of Scots, as only legendary novelist Jean Plaidy could write it
Mary Stuart became Queen of Scotland at the tender age of six days old. Her French-born mother, the Queen Regent, knew immediately that the infant queen would be a vulnerable pawn in the power struggle between Scotland’s clans and nobles. So Mary was sent away from the land of her birth and raised in the sophisticated and gli… More >>
Royal Road to Fotheringhay: The Story of Mary, Queen of Scots
Mary Queen of Scots was a national security threat, she was openly plotting to kill Elizabeth and have herself put on the English throne with the help of Spain (an enemy of England).
Elizabeth tried to help Mary and took care of her for 19 years and this is the thanks Elizabeth gets for it! Elizabeth never plotted to kill another monarch but Mary plots to kill her.
So why do people get angry at Elizabeth for executing Mary? Mary was a criminal and a traitor.
I had a really tough time finding this song online, so I thought I’d upload it with some pictures of the woman who it’s written about. Read on for a short biography (not written by me): Mary, queen of Scots was one of the most fascinating and controversial monarchs of 16th century Europe. At one time, she claimed the crowns of four nations – Scotland, France, England and Ireland. Her physical beauty and kind heart were acknowledged even by her enemies. Yet she lacked the political skills to rule successfully in Scotland. Her second marriage was unpopular and ended in murder and scandal; her third was even less popular and ended in forced abdication in favor of her infant son. She fled to England in 1568, hoping for the help of her cousin, Elizabeth I. Her presence was dangerous for the English queen, who feared Catholic plotting on Mary’s behalf. The two queens never met and Mary remained imprisoned for the next nineteen years. She was executed in 1587, only forty-four years old. By orders of the English government, all of her possessions were burned. In 1603, upon Elizabeth’s death, Mary’s son became king of England as James I. PS. Mary actually did wear a red dress at her execution to symbolize her martyrdom.

I need to know what Queen Elizabeth actually did when Mary Queen of Scots rebelled saying she is the rightful heir of the English throne in 1559. I know she beheaded Mary but I need to know what happened before that.
I am surprised their tombs have never been opened (assuming they haven’t) – they don’t know exactly how Elizabeth died – only assuming from what they have seen in documents that it was a cancer. Also Mary of Scotland – they don’tknow for sure if she was struck once or twice. So have any of their bodies been examined by scientists – add to that any other monarch in recent times. Barr that of Charles I who I know was found in the 19th century in Henry VIII tomb. Help would begreat, thanks!
