You Wouldn’t Want to Be Mary, Queen of Scots!: A Ruler Who Really Lost Her Head
I’m going to Scotland (hopefully in a year or so). I’ve always been fascinated with castles & the whole Scottish culture. What is the best time of year to go & what region is best? I’m really thinking of going to the Highlands. I don’t want to go to a big “city”–I want to visit the smaller towns & the countryside. I also want to stay in a small bed & breakfast. I would love to stay in a castle, but I don’t know of any available. What are some sights I need to see? Any help is greatly appreciated!
Why doesn’t Ireland have all the territory on that Island? Why does Great Britain still own part of Ireland?
Hi
Before I start I just want to say that I am not trying to start a flame war, but having watched several American sitcoms and read through many an Internet argument (nerdy I know) I just need to check up on this:
How many Americans really think that all people from the UK are posh bad-toothed tea drinkers? We’re a G8 nation too, we don’t need to live in castles or anything. I know that The Clash and many other British bands are popular in the USA as well as such shows as Top Gear, so surely this stereotype must have gone out the window many decades ago?
I have heard many an American thinking that they won WWII single handedly, and this also ruined Friends for me, which is one of my favourite shows but makes me sick with the ‘would be speaking German’ line. It was a joint allied effort, so we saved you as much as you saved us.
I am not trying to start an argument, and I know it is probably just a few hillbillies who think like this, but I would just like to check and be sure.
I just read through it and the WWII rant sounds like I’m telling you off lol it was intended as a question as to how many people actually believe that they won the war but was rubbishy phrased.
Haha thanks guys I must say I was nervous when I signed on to read for answers; I thought there would be some kind of flame war here lol. Answered the questions better than I expected I thought it would just be a ‘yes’ ‘no’ thing with the occasional USA / UK rant
Thanks Guys
I am going to spend one week in Scotland and I would like to know which are the most beautiful places to visit, as I don’t have enough time to visit all..besides, I don’t know if it would be better to spend a day on a tour of the Isle of Skye or to spend it visiting Fort William and the Road to the isles, which I read has the most spectacular scenery in the world! Anyone can give me some advices?
I’m getting married in County Cork this spring, and I’d love to get those amazing French macaroons (like the ones sold at Laduree and Paul, among many others) instead of a wedding cake. Does anyone make these in Ireland? Or would I have to order them directly from the French bakeries in France?
I’m traveling Ireland with a couple buddies and one of em wants to go visit all the castles, go hiking, and some other out door stuff. But my concern is can you really do much outdoors if the weather is not in your favor? What scenic places can you see in November when the weather’s crap? What can are some touristy things we can do?
10 points for the best answer. Thanks!
I want to buy a new cross but I don’t know what the ring around it represents. It is not a Celtic cross.
