ITS NICE TO BE ON THE OLD TOWN

In the green suburbs of west Kent lies the town of Royal Tunbridge Wells. It has grown in status and popularity as a tourist haven since its inception when it was considered a spa town. The natural springs and waterways were considered to have healing properties and visitors from all around came to spend a holiday camping on the green hills and being rejuvenated by the cleansing spring waters.

Considered a typical middle England town it is popular with visitors from all corners of the globe who want to experience a slice of traditional British culture. The town and its surrounding area have a wide array of attractions to experience.

The British Garden is widely considered a thing of beauty, combining vibrant greenery with colourful floral plants to create a truly mesmerising and tranquil spectacle. Created by a pair of British aristocrats, the Sissinghurst Castle Garden lies on the premises of a former Elizabethan house and is one of the most famous gardens in the Kent region. A wide variety of plants from around the world have been cultivated at this garden and meticulously preened and manicured to produce amazing designs focusing on colour throughout the seasons setting a romantic cosy atmosphere. An equally popular garden attraction is the Great Dixter House & Garden. Surrounding a rare timber framed manor that has been painstakingly preserved since 1910, the gardens comprise of traditional European plants and orchards that offer the perfect atmosphere for a quiet Sunday evening walk.

Stately manors and castles are a must visit when in England. They are physical manifestations of the opulence of the British aristocracy and prime examples of period design and architecture often housing priceless antiques and offering panoramic views across the land. In the rolling hills of Kent thanks to its close proximity to London many royal figures built their homes and castles in the surrounding vicinity. A short trip to the outskirts of Royal Tunbridge Wells will bring visitors to a vast choice of attractions to tour. Hever Castle and Gardens is famed as being the childhood home of Anne Boleyn, a well preserved 13th century castle featuring lavishly furnished interiors and award wining gardens.

Home of the Viscount De LIsle since 1552, the Sidney family has graciously opened its doors to the public. A residence nestled within acres of landscaped gardens it provides a relaxing tour of the 13th century manor house that has been the setting for royal banquets and dances throughout the years.

Shopping in Royal Tunbridge Wells is an entertaining as well as educational experience. Many of the retail streets have been in service since the town’s inception and have changed little. The Pantiles represents the historic core of the town filled with boutiques and niche shops selling unique products and souvenirs. Old High Street still retains its Victorian store frontages and is home to private sellers and markets whose products and shops have been handed down through families for generations. If it’s designer brands you are after, head to the secluded Royal Victoria Place.

Filled with trendy boutiques with some the most famous brands in the world, the area combines modern chic with traditional elegance. These are just some of the interesting and unique things to do when visiting Royal Tunbridge Wells. Visitors looking for accommodation in the city or the surrounding area will be presented with a vast choice. The Copthorne Hotel London Gatwick for example is as its name suggests a Gatwick Airport hotel. Compared to the dull business backdrop of many Gatwick Airport hotels, the Copthorne Hotel London Gatwick offers a warm country house style retreat exuding a relaxed atmosphere coupled with the latest amenities and services to ensure a pleasant stay.
