In the 1950s, Colin MacFarlane was born in the Gorbals, a working-class neighborhood in Glasgow, Scotland. MacFarlane witnessed the last days of the old Gorbals just as a major regeneration program began in 1961 and, as a street boy, he had a unique insight into a once great community in rapid decline. I know i am a seventh generation American, meaning my family has been in the US since before the revolution, but my last name is Scottish and I can legitimately trace my ancestry back 9 generations to Kintyre, Scotland. My Family is descended from Jacobite Rebels who after the rebellion followed Flora McDonald to the New World. My family is deeply proud of this fact (keep in mind this is a well documented fact not just some claim, i have sources to document it) but my question is what do ,as i call them, “True Scots” (that being people born and raised in Scotland) think of an American claiming a Scottish heritage, and not only that being intensely proud of it. I own a Kilt and i attend the local games it is something i look to as a source of Pride. So do Scots appreciate this admittedly obscure claim or do they deplore the idea of Americans parading around in kilts and citing their Clan as if they were still in the Highlands?

I heard this from someone, or read it. Is it true?
