The Scots continued to fight the English for nine years more until firmly securing their independence at the battle of Bannockburn in 1314.

Scotland ultimately defeated the English nine years after Wallace’s death, under the leadership of Robert I of Scotland (Robert Bruce), in 1314, at the Battle of Bannockburn.

It probably was not entirely what Wallace planned, he was a supporter of John Baliol who was a rival of Robert Bruce.

William Wallace was not the only one who lead an uprising against the English at the time of Edward I. Andrew Moray who was the first to start the uprisings in the north of Scotland, is often overlooked. He died at the Battle of Stirling Bridge.
